Community asset transfer
Consideration of multiple requests to lease Calderwood Hall
Reference CAT/24/0002
Calderwood Hall is one of the buildings South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture plans to withdraw from following their budget meeting in February of this year.
We've set up a community fightback fund with the intention to support local residents and community groups to take on the leases of these properties to operate them on behalf of their local community and save them from closure.
Interested parties were invited to submit expressions of interest for these buildings detailing their intentions and ability to continue their operation in the short term through a short-term lease, if they were successful.
Multiple groups expressed an interest in operating these properties and it was agreed that a process would be put in place to let local residents express support for the group they thought would be best suited to manage the property. This information would be used as part of the consideration.
Two groups have expressed an interest in short-term leasing Calderwood Hall to see if their plans are viable for the long term. The two interested parties are as follows:
Calderwood Baptist Church – operate a church and associated social groups and offer local community groups continued access
6th East Kilbride Scout Group – operate local scout group and offer local community groups continued access
The documents relating to these requests can be viewed by emailing CommunityAssets@southlanarkshire.gov.uk or online on the planning portal - choose Simple Search and use the words “Calderwood Hall” or reference number “CAT/24/0002” in the keyword search box.
Anyone is entitled to make representations about these requests to South Lanarkshire Council. Representations must be in writing and include the name and address of the person making it. This information will in turn be used to formulate a report which will be presented to a future meeting of the Housing and Technical Committee where a final decision will be made by elected members on which applicant will be entitled to progress.
Representations must be made by 5pm on Wednesday 12 June 2024. They should be made via the planning portal, emailed to CommunityAssets@southlanarkshire.gov.uk or sent to the following address:
