Cuningar Woodland Park, Rutherglen - proposed suspension of access rights

We are consulting on a proposed temporary suspension of access rights at Cuningar Loop Woodland Park, Rutherglen.

Under Section 11 of the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003 as an access authority we can make an Order to temporarily close land and core paths to normal access for a particular purpose, on application from a third party or as initiated by us.

In this case, the Order will be to suspend access rights for a period of 16 days on a section of Cuningar Loop Woodland Park (equating to 54% of the overall Park area) to allow The Land of Giants ticketed event to take place.

As part of the process we are required to consult the public.

What will be closed?

The main visitor area of the park will be closed to general access over the event period, with the exception of the play run area which will be available at all times. This is to facilitate ticket-only access, provide security, and ensure public safety in relation to temporary structures and equipment that will remain on site for the 16-day period of the event. The main access route through the park will be available at all times as normal, while access to the entire park will be unrestricted during event installation and dismantling periods.

When access is closed

The Order will take effect from 0.01am on Saturday 27 July 2024 and will expire at 11.59pm on Sunday 11 August 2024.

How to object or comment

Any objections and representations on the Order should be made to us by email or post to the addresses given below, by Friday 10 May.

These should be made in writing, and in the case of objections, the grounds on which they are made should be stated.
