Recycling
Clothes and textiles
Charity shops and retro clothing companies will take good quality clothing and textiles.
Alternatively put them in a plastic bag to keep them clean and put it in a textile bank. The company which recycles South Lanarkshire's textiles can recycle anything which is clean, dry and in wearable condition. Unfortunately textiles which aren't, can’t be processed and end up in landfill. The recycling industry is constantly changing and this may improve in the future. At the moment you can recycle:
- clothing
- curtains/net curtains
- bedspreads/quilt covers
- tablecloths
- handbags/belts
- pairs of shoes tied together
This is then sorted with some going to Africa, Eastern Europe and India.
Oxfam and the Salvation Army (SATCoL) also have a number of clothing banks across South Lanarkshire.
