South Lanarkshire - State of the Environment Report
The quality of the environment in which we live is important for our health and wellbeing. South Lanarkshire has a very rich and diverse environment which gives the area its unique character. Such an environment requires careful management in order to maintain and improve the area.
We compile a biennial State of the Environment Report. The aim of the report is to provide quality data that facilitates evaluation of a range of environmental issues, identifies trends and provides an overall picture of the condition or state of South Lanarkshire’s environment.
The reports covers the following 10 environment issues:
- Population and human health
- Biodiversity, fauna and flora
- Historic and cultural heritage
- Material assets and landscape
- Waste
- Soils
- Air, noise and light
- Water
- Climate change
- Transport
The state of the environment across South Lanarkshire is in many aspects relatively good. However, there are certain environmental issues where there is potential for improvement. These include those that can affect human health and the natural and built environment.
This report was approved by the Executive Committee on 26 June 2024 - CMIS > Meetings calendar Item 13: trends, analysis and key findings are presented in the covering report and appendices.
