About us | LEAP an award-winning project established in 1992 has a proven track record of delivering a range of services for older people aimed at improving and or maintaining their feelings of health and wellbeing, addressing issues around loneliness and isolation, access to services. “Enhancing the lives of older people in the community.” Over the years the organisation has developed and expanded to provide a range of services for older people across 13 communities within South Lanarkshire. Today, the board consists of older people from the local communities in which the organisation serves. The purpose of the charity: • To advance education. • To advance community development by linking volunteers with community projects increasing opportunities for community participation and active citizenship through volunteering, education and training. • The provision of recreational activities. • The relief of those in need, in particular vulnerable persons suffering from mental, physical disability, illness, impairment or old age through the provision of services that combat isolation, encourage and support personal development, bring people together to share interests, fulfil goals and develop friendships and provide the community with necessary services to enable them to live independently. Today, LEAP supports thousands of older vulnerable people a year, many of whom live in the most deprived areas as cited in the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation and who face significant metal and physical health challenges, fuel and food poverty as well as other financial challenges further compounded by the current economic crisis and who experience loneliness and isolation. We strive to involve older people in the community at all levels within the organisation and they are at the heart of every decision we take, and every project developed. We offer 4 key projects – Befriending services face to face, telephone and group befriending, Leisure and learning activities offering over 30 activities a week aimed at maintaining an individual’s feelings of health and wellbeing and connecting them with their community, a free handy person service, carrying out a range of jobs in an individual’s home assisting them to remain independent at home for longer, dementia offering a range of community support for people living with dementia and their carers’. Our services are underpinned by Investing in Volunteers and Quality in Befriending excellence accreditations. They are supported by a small core of staff and 130 volunteers. Our volunteers are integral to our organisations continued success. |
