About usLEAP an award-winning project established in 1992 has a proven track record of delivering a range of services for older people aimed at improving and or maintaining their feelings of health and wellbeing, addressing issues around loneliness and isolation, poverty and deprivation “Enhancing the lives of older people in the community.” Over the years the organisation has developed and expanded to provide a range of services for older people across several communities within South Lanarkshire. the board consists of older people from the local communities in which the organisation serves. In the last year, supported over 5,000 older vulnerable people many of whom live in the most deprived areas as cited in the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation and who face significant metal and physical health challenges, fuel and food poverty as well as other financial challenges, further compounded by the current economic crisis and who experience loneliness and isolation. We strive to involve older people in the community at all levels within the organisation and they are at the heart of every decision we take, and every project developed. We offer 4 key projects – • Befriending services face to face, telephone and group befriending • Leisure and learning activities offering over 30 Free or low cost activities a week aimed at maintaining an individual’s feelings of health and wellbeing and connecting them with their community • A free handy person service, carrying out a range of jobs in an individual’s home assisting them to remain independent at home for longer • Dementia project, supporting people with lived experience of dementia in the heart of the community. Our services are supported by a small team of staff and 150 volunteers and are underpinned by Investing in Volunteers and Quality in Befriending excellence accreditation
