Idea | Improve road crossing near Glenlee Primary School, on the A724. |

Response | With regard to a pedestrian crossing to be installed on the A724, when considering the introduction of a crossing facility, the council uses ‘Gap Assessment’ methodology to gauge whether there is adequate opportunity for pedestrians to cross a road safely. The number of gaps between vehicles that is longer than the time required to cross the road at a slow walking pace are studied, along with the number of pedestrians looking to cross the road and any local factors such as the presence of nearby community buildings. This method allows each location to be ranked to reflect the priority for a crossing facility. Following your enquiry, it is our intention to undertake a full Gap Assessment survey at this location. We will write to you further once the survey has been completed and the results are available to advise of our decision. We anticipate that we will be in a position to do this by the end of September 2024. |
