Day clubs - increase provision

Day clubs - increase provision | South Lanarkshire Council
IdeaCreate more day clubs for the elderly as they won't be able to pay for their energy this year.
ResponseIt was not clear if this suggestion related to the Day Care services provided by the council for older people with assessed need or, rather, to less formal activity clubs of the sort that might be hosted by faith groups, sports clubs, miners’ welfare societies and so on.

If the former, assessed Day Care services are for residents with significant levels of need and dependency. The benefits of these are therefore limited to those who have been assessed as requiring the service, and therefore they support the most vulnerable people.

If, however, the suggestion related to more informal social clubs, the council already supports a wide network of voluntary organisations and community groups that already host such clubs, through community grants and other sources of funding. The council also funded a Warm Welcome initiative during the worst of the cost-of-living crisis in the winter of 2022-23, including funding South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture to open leisure facilities to clubs at no cost. Further such arrangements would require funding to be identified, given the financial pressures on the council’s budget.
