Housing allocation - bidding system
Idea | There should be a bidding system in place for housing in South Lanarkshire, similar to other councils. |

Response | Choice-based lettings (CBL) is a housing allocation system which allows applicants to bid to register their interest in a vacant property. The CBL approach has been considered by the council, however following careful consideration of the advantages and disadvantages, the decision was made not to introduce this type of allocation system in South Lanarkshire. The council and its Housing Association partners operate a Common Housing Register (CHR) in South Lanarkshire. The CHR makes it easier for applicants to apply for social rented housing as they only need to complete one housing application form to be considered for housing by all CHR partners. This approach allows applicants equal access to housing and more choice of properties and areas they may wish to live in. Within the CHR all partners apply the same approach to assessing housing needs, which means that applicants are awarded the same level of priority for housing by all partners. |
