About usSense Scotland is a Scottish charity and specialised social care provider supporting people with communication support needs associated with complex and sensory disabilities and their families, where individual needs and choices come first. We provide a range of services including family advisory; early years support for children aged up to eight and their families; community living, day support for children and adults; arts programme and short breaks. We also provide healthy living support including a range of indoor and outdoor physical activities; welfare rights support; transition support; ASDAN awards and other activities and programmes to develop skills in learning, employment and life. We support young people and adults in South Lanarkshire and surrounding areas in Blantyre Short Breaks which provides short breaks and respite care for 80 people with up to 7 visitors at a time. It provides a broad selection of opportunities to socialise, be active, try new things, develop skills, get outdoors, relax and have fun all tailored to each individual’s preferences, interests and needs. It also gives families and carers much-needed breathing space, most of the time just to catch up on their sleep. The breaks are vital to the health and wellbeing of families and act as a home from home, sometimes over many years.
Our WishWith the warmer weather ahead, we would love to be able offer the activity of boccia bowling in our garden for the people who use our respite service. Boccia bowling is a bowling game which is accessible for people with physical disabilities, it requires little physical effort to be able to take part in. It is a great opportunity to build relationships, socialise, develop skills in turn taking and overall just lots of fun. To be able to purchase a set of bowling balls and a ramp, which allows for the bowling ball to be rolled down with ease, we would require a donation of £280.00.
