Title | Wheelchair Accessible Housing Targets |

Council Resource | Housing and Technical |
Aims and Objectives | Deliver an agreed target of 8% of wheelchair accessible housing within the affordable housing supply programme, to meet the specific needs of customers / tenants affected by disability. People with disabilities have the option to live in barrier free housing which maximises their life potential. |
Conclusion | The setting of a target for the delivery of wheelchair user housing in new build housing programmes, is a requirement of the Scottish Government, supporting 'A Fairer Scotland for Disabled People' Delivery Plan. Action 62 within the Delivery Plan states - "Work with local authorities, disabled people and other stakeholders to ensure that each local authority sets a realistic target within its Local Housing Strategy for the delivery of wheelchair accessible housing across all tenures and report annually on progress". The Delivery Plan has been shaped by the experiences of disabled people and the insights of disabled people's organisations. Within South Lanarkshire, an agreed target has been set at 8% for social rented properties. We will continue to work with our RSL partners through the LHS Steering Group and associated sub groups, to achieve this target. Progress in relation to the target will be reported to Housing and Technical Resources Committee on an annual basis as part of the annual LHS review process. |
