About usHamilton & District Men's Shed is a community-based charity that is open to men living in and around Hamilton and linked to a South Lanarkshire wide network of Sheds. The project offers local men the opportunity to meet socially with others in a safe and welcoming environment, offering friendship, connection and a sense of purpose. Also on offer is the opportunity to build individual and group capacity by sharing skills, knowledge and experiences with others gained through previous work. Many of our members have been tradesman or worked in settings that require specialist knowledge and abilities to use complex tools and machines. Members who attend the Shed report a list of benefits include feeling less isolated, physically fitter and having a reason to get out of the house.
The Men’s Shed works with local groups, schools and individuals to share skills, supply goods and work on projects that have a wider community benefit. We operate two days per week currently and we are almost at capacity for the space we have.
Our WishOur wish is to gain a financial donation towards our annual rental cost. We are currently housed at Hamilton Accies Football Club who are great supporters of our work. However, due to the cost-of-living crisis we are now incurring a monthly rent to cover the utilities used whilst operating the shed. We do charge a small sub of £2 to our members per session, if they can afford it, but unfortunately this does not cover our rental costs. Our rental costs are £250 per month or £3k per annum, any contribution would be appreciated.
