Play area - Banff Place, East Kilbride

Play area - Banff Place, East Kilbride | South Lanarkshire Council
IdeaAt the former play area in front of Banff Place in Westwood, East Kilbride, 20 years ago the play equipment deteriorated and was removed and never replaced. The ground has been patched up, and all that is left is a derelict area of land with no purpose. Local families have taken to bringing their own children's play equipment to the area to allow their children to play. You should consider reinstating a play park here so that future generations of children in the area have somewhere safe to play. The closest play park to this area is on Vancouver Drive at Manitoba Crescent, which is a fair distance to ask a child to walk to get to play.
ResponseThere was a review of fixed play areas a number of years ago which resulted in a number of fixed play areas being removed as, due to age or condition, they were unsafe or offered very little in play value at that time.

The council manages and maintains the remaining 233 fixed play areas located throughout South Lanarkshire. Budgets have been focused on ensuring safety rather than other improvements to the fixed play areas. While funds have been awarded to all Scottish local authorities to use on fixed play areas, it is a limited sum and this funding will only be used on existing fixed play areas.

Local community groups that are interested in working in partnership with the council to replace previous play areas should email ffgs@southlanarkshire.gov.uk to receive details about the process.
