Idea	Free parking at East Kilbride town centre. At present people journey to places like Silverburn and The Fort, where parking is free and the shops are busy. Surely retail would improve if EK had free parking at the town centre.
Response	EK town centre car parks are owned and operated by the owners of the town centre, not the council. Over the last few years the owners have worked hard to reduce car parking costs by, for example, providing the first hour or two for free. It is challenging to go beyond this as the operation of the car parks comes at considerable cost, in terms of maintenance, staff, ticket machinery and more, and the charges are essential in covering these costs.
