Hamilton shopping centre units

Hamilton shopping centre units | South Lanarkshire Council
IdeaPlease do something with Hamilton shopping centre. Make the larger shops smaller so someone uses them. Offer shops, eg Primark etc bigger premises, cheap. More markets.
ResponseThe council works with a range of partners to implement measures in the town centre which have been captured in the Hamilton Town Centre Strategy and Action Plan. This is in the process of being reviewed and will give the public the opportunity to have their say through the consultation process. The council owns very little in the way of commercial property in Hamilton town centre and therefore it is not within our control to change unit sizes or influence rental levels. That said, we are aware that the key stakeholders in the town are working tirelessly to secure new tenants. However, this is challenging across all town centres as the retail landscape continues to change.

In relation to markets, the Hamilton Business Improvement District have run a series of very successful markets over the last 12 to 18 months and intend to keep building on this success.

We recognise the challenges our towns face and are working with all stakeholders to maximise investment.
