Aims and Objectives | The South Lanarkshire Local Development Plan 2 (SLLDP2) is a statutory document that sets out the land use planning framework for South Lanarkshire over the next 5 years. The Plan contains 19 main polices which identify opportunities for new development and set out requirements to protect the environment and safeguard local communities. Some of the main policies are supported by subsidiary policies which contain more detailed criteria for the assessment of planning applications. The LDP2 objective is to promote the continued growth and regeneration of South Lanarkshire by seeking sustainable economic and social development within a low carbon economy whilst protecting and enhancing the environment. The 19 policies cover the following topics: Spatial Strategy Climate Change General Urban Areas/Settlements Green Belt and Rural Area Development Management and Placemaking Visitor Economy and Tourism Community Infrastructure Assessment Employment Network of Centres and Retailing New Retail/commercial proposals Housing Affordable Housing Green Network and Greenspace Natural and Historic Environment Travel and Transport Water Environment and Flooding Waste Renewable Energy Minerals Development The plan will provide certainty in terms of guiding investment decisions by clearly setting out where and how new development should and should not take place. |
Conclusion | "The Local Development Plan for South Lanarkshire is a high level strategy which sets out the land use planning framework for South Lanarkshire. It seeks to benefit everyone who lives, works in or visits South Lanarkshire by promoting sustainable economic growth whilst protecting the environment. The plan contains detailed policies which include advice on the design of new developments to ensure accessibility for all, provision of sustainable transport, affordable housing and sites for gypsy/travellers. The preparation of the LDP has involved an extensive programme of public consultation and engagement, including groups representing the protected characteristics. Changes to policy wording have been made to incorporate the needs of specific groups.. It is considered that this policy will have positive benefits for the protected characteristics of Age, Disability and Pregnancy/Maternity by promoting inclusive design and ensuring new developments are accessible, and that new residential developments include affordable housing. It will also benefit Gypsy/travellers by ensuring that planning policies are in place to deal with any identified need for new sites." |
