Clydesdale Local Letting Initiative (sustainability)
Title | Clydesdale Local Letting Initiative (sustainability) |
---|---|
Service Area | Housing |
Aims and Objectives | There are a number of specific and unique issues faced by rural communities including the lack of transport, fewer employment opportunities and low incomes. Due to the high numbers of empty properties there is evidence that tenants with no housing need are transferring to similar property types/sizes which are within close proximity of their current home. This is resulting in a number of tenancies ending within one year of creation. To promote and encourage tenancy sustainability all new tenants will be offered housing support. Any tenant seeking rehousing within the first year of their tenancy will be provided with comprehensive housing options advice and a further housing support assessment prior to any offer of rehousing being made. |
Conclusion | The Local Housing Strategy details the scale of the challenge facing these villages and notes that they have experienced decline and many lack facilities, transport links and employment opportunities, as well as having higher rates of tenancy breakdown. The lack of demand for housing is identified within the Lanarkshire Leader Rural Strategy 2014-2020 as a symptom of wider community issues such as access to employment opportunities, transport links and public services. The strategy states that its vision is to establish a more sustainable rural Lanarkshire which will improve the quality of life for local communities. To promote and encourage tenancy sustainability all new tenants will be offered housing support. Any tenant seeking rehousing within the first year of their tenancy will be provided with comprehensive housing options advice and a further housing support assessment prior to any offer of rehousing being made. THE LLI WILL BE REVIEWED EACH YEAR TO ENSURE THAT IT IS OPERATING EFFECTIVELY AND THE OUTCOMES ARE AS EXPECTED. |
