Council Resource | Community and Enterprise |
Service Area | Community and Enterprise |
Aims and Objectives | The aim of this policy is to review the current building asset and identify alternative methods of service delivery, where the existing facility is no longer suitable for continued service provision due to the physical condition, the costs associated with upgrade, and the lack of use by the local community. The purpose is to provide alternative means of service delivery at a reduced cost whilst improving the level of service to customers. All customers will be relocated to modern more accessible facilities with improved access and building condition within a reasonable travelling distance and no greater than 5 miles away. All employees at this facility will be redeployed to alternative South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture (SLLC) venues as close to their current place of work as possible. |
Conclusion | It is recommend that the closure of Burnhill Sports Centre is agreed, as it is no longer suitable for continued service provision due to it's physical condition, the costs associated with upgrading the facility and the lack of use by the local community. The proposed alternative facilities i.e. Lifestyle Eastfield and Fernhill offer the opportunity to provide, in the majority of cases, an enhanced modern more accessible facility with improved access and general building conditions. Where we currently have regular bookings we will provide alternative locations within a 5 mile radius. Staff currently working in the centre will be redeployed within South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture Trust. |
