Aims and Objectives | The South Lanarkshire Local Plan Design Policies set out the Council's requirements relating to the design of new buildings, together with alterations and extensions to existing buildings in South Lanarkshire. The policies' objectives are to: -Seek to create a sense of identity through patterns of new building -Seek to create safe, pleasant spaces and a sense of welcome through improved lighting and signage -Seek to create opportunities for ease of movement for pedestrians and cyclists -Make good use of the natural and built environment. Policies ENV 29 New Development Design Policy and ENV 30 New Housing Design Policy make specific reference to the need for developments to make provision for safe, easy and inclusive access for all people regardless of disability, age or gender. |
Conclusion | The conclusion of this initial impact assessment is that there are no adverse impacts on any part of the community covered by equalities legislation, or on community relations. This is because the design policies specifically address the access requirements of all people, regardless of disability, age or gender. Procedures are already in place to ensure that disability organisations have the opportunity to comment on the design of new developments. Consultation on all Local Plan policies iss undertaken in accordance with the requirements of the Town and Country Planning legislation |
