Aims and ObjectivesThe childcare strategy was established in 1999 to respond to the need to create and develop flexible, affordable childcare and pre school education. In recent years, the emphasis has been to move away from supporting projects longer term and assisting organisations in taking responsibility for their own sustainability. The Early Years Service will continue to support umbrella organisations such as SPELL, (Support for Play and Learning in Lanarkshire), SCMA,(Scottish Child Minding Association) and to work in partnership with a variety of agencies to continue helping providers develop their services. It will also continue to provide opportunities for practitioners to train and gain appropriate qualifications to work in the childcare sector.

ConclusionA level of development has now taken place to allow childcare providers to take forward their services and be responsible for their own sustainability. The Early Years Service will continue to support umbrella organisations and to work in partnership with a variety of agencies to continue helping providers develop their services. It will also continue to provide opportunities for practitioners to train and gain appropriate qualifications to work in the childcare sector. The conclusion of this initial impact assessment is that there are no adverse impacts on any part of the community covered by the equalities legislation.
