Aims and ObjectivesThe Disability Equality Scheme sets out South Lanarkshire Councils action plan for eliminating discrimination and harassment; promoting equality of opportunity and positive attitudes; encouraging participation in public life; and taking steps to account for disabled persons living in South Lanarkshire. The scheme is a working document which provides advice and guidance to managers and employees in relation to these duties. It pays particular attention to access to and delivery of services and employment matters.

ConclusionThe conclusion of this initial equality impact assessment is that there are no adverse impacts on any part of the community covered by equalities legislation, or on community relations. The Disability Equality Scheme has been written with the involvement of members of our community and workforce and is intended to positively impact on the attitudes and working practices of those living in South Lanarkshire. The scheme sets out an action plan which is regularly updated and informs the work of each resource. It is a key part of our overall Equality and Diversity Strategy and links closely to our Race and Gender Equality Schemes.
