Additional support needs schools and bases/departments
Meeting additional support needs in school
We have a broad range of facilities to meet the needs of children and young people with additional support needs (ASN). In the main, ASN will be met in classes in mainstream schools. All establishments ensure that the curriculum meets the needs of the individual child, in line with the principles of Getting It Right for Every Child and Curriculum for Excellence.
The needs of individual children will be met in the most appropriate environment and this could be in mainstream classes, specialist departments located in mainstream school or specialist schools.
Additional support needs classes are smaller and have a higher staff to pupil ratio. Pupils engage in an adapted curriculum and join mainstream classes where appropriate.
