Lanark traffic management survey
Our Local Transport Strategy (LTS) 2013-2023 identified a number of projects where previous studies concluded that new road infrastructure was necessary. These were to support sustainable economic growth by providing an efficient road network that provides key strategic links and minimise delay and congestion.
Roads are not only vital for private car travel, but also for fast and efficient bus services, active travel journeys, and many essential local freight and business journeys. Pinch points on the network need to be minimised and public transport and active travel infrastructure need to be provided to maximise the efficiency of the road network.
Roads schemes that achieve these goals are required for a sustainable strategy, because they not only have clear economic benefits but also benefits for the environment, social inclusion, and safety.
Among the schemes identified was The Lanark Gyratory System, and several options were investigated before the current suggestion was decided as an option worthy of further development. Please view our story map to see previous traffic modelling work and scenario testing on potential options.
