Have your say on review of Polling Districts and places
Published: Tuesday 24 September 2024
A review of Polling Districts and Polling Places across South Lanarkshire is underway.
Local Authorities have a statutory duty to carry out this review every five years, with the current one having to be completed by 31 January 2025.
The purpose of the review is to ensure reasonable facilities for voting and the accessibility of polling places to all electors, including those with a disability, so far as is reasonable and practicable.
South Lanarkshire Council Chief Executive Paul Manning said: “An important part of the review is to gather views from local people and organisations on the current Polling Districts and Polling Places in the South Lanarkshire Council area.
“In particular, we will be seeking feedback from those with an expertise in respect of accessibility challenges that people with different forms of disability might experience.”
More information on the review is available from the council website. Documents relating to the review can also be inspected in person by arranging an appointment on weekdays at the Election Office, South Lanarkshire Council, Election Office, 21 Beckford Street, Hamilton ML3 0BT between the hours of 10.00am and 4.00pm.
If members of the public consider a change should be made to the current arrangements, they are invited to suggest alternative Polling Districts and/or Polling Places and encouraged to give a reason for the alternative proposal so that it may be given appropriate consideration.
Any comments or proposals must be made by Friday 1 November 2024.
The easiest way to take part is using the online consultation.
Representations can also be made by email, telephone to 01698 455745 or by post to: Election Office, South Lanarkshire Council, Election Office, 21 Beckford Street, Hamilton ML3 0BT.
The outcome of the review will be reported to the Council’s Executive Committee on 11 December 2024 for its consideration.
