Photo provides stunning snapshot of history

A photo from when Strathaven Academy first opened 100 years ago has been digitally enhanced.
And visitors to Strathaven Library can now view the photo – and perhaps identify relatives.
Local resident Ian Gow discovered the photo and in conversation with librarian Iain Robertson, both agreed it would be something wonderful to share with other people in the town.
Ian Gow arranged for a large-scale print, which is now on display at the library.
Iain Robertson said: “The quality of this digital print is stunning – you really need to see it to appreciate it.
“The detail is unbelievable, and you would honestly think it was a photo that was taken this century, not 100 years ago.
“Many thanks to Ian Gow for sharing it with is, and we are looking for visitors to the library to record any insights they may have about any of the teachers or pupils featured.”
Chief Executive of South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture, Kay Morrison, said: “This is a truly stunning snapshot of a moment in history, and I am sure the people of Strathaven will be able to help us piece together exactly who some of the people are in the photo.”
The photo will be on display in the library for the next few months. Strathaven Library is based in the Avondale Community Wing and opening hours and contact details can be found on the SLLC website.
