Equipment and adaptations
If you are having problems getting around your home, it could possibly be adapted to make it easier for you. You will need to be assessed by our occupational therapist who will agree any works required and pass details to our repairs centre. Our Equipment, adaptations and occupational therapy page provides further information on the options available. Alternatively you can contact your local Social Work office using the contact details shown.
Our repairs centre will contact you following your assessment to arrange suitable times to carry out the work. Small adaptations are normally completed within 7 working days if you are waiting to leave hospital. Other adaptations will normally be completed within 28 working days or longer where larger adaptations are required.
If you are a council or housing association tenant your landlord will carry out the work. If you are a home owner or private tenant you can apply for a grant of between 80% and 100% of the cost of the work, depending on your income.
In some cases it may be better for you to move to a more suitable home and your local Housing Office can offer advice in these instances.
Further information on Housing and Support options is also available on our Housing Options for Older People page.
